SMART HOME: THE HOUSE IS MANAGED WITH SMART SPEAKERS

Increasingly widespread and used: voice assistants facilitate interactions between users and systems installed at home thanks to the use of voice

Connected and intelligent objects are revolutionising the concept of home by transforming it into the so-called Smart Home, with the aim of making it more efficient, comfortable and safe. But how do you control all these devices? Thanks to the control of all functions and systems through simple commands sent either through a smartphone and tablet or through voice assistants and smart speakers, which, in the last two years, have conquered the market.

Voice assistants are the last frontier of technological living, a growing trend that underlines the readiness and desire of users to live everyday life in a simpler way.

WHAT ARE VOICE ASSISTANTS?

Using your voice to interact with the home, rather than typing on a physical keyboard or touch screen, is certainly a simplification. Voice assistants are devices that interact with users through simple voice commands, they understand requests and perform simple or articulated operations.

Smart home speakers, which at first glance look like normal speakers, can answer any kind of question: they give weather information, search the Internet, set alarms and reminders, compile the shopping list and, if you have a smart TV, they can also change channels. They are equipped with microphones for listening and speakers for response, a Wi-Fi connection and artificial intelligence software that is able to interact with user commands.

But their functions do not stop here: the operation of different systems present in the house and of the connected devices can be controlled by voice commands. But what is the potential of Google Home, Alexa and Siri, and how can they be used to create a smart home in line with your needs?

EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL WITH THE USE OF VOICE

The possibilities are endless: with a voice command you can turn on the lights and adjust their intensity (if dimmable); adjust the temperature in the different rooms of the house; activate the anti-theft and safety systems; manage the boiler and the air conditioning system; check who is ringing the speakerphone and open the door; raise or lower the shutters; interact with Wi-Fi sockets and appliances.

You can do all this just by ‘sending out’ simple voice commands in a totally natural way: just say “turn off the light”, “lower the shutters” or “turn on the air conditioner”.

There is no doubt that this is an improvement to quality of life, and it makes everyday activities easier not just for everyday use, but especially for older people or people with disabilities.

DISABLED PERSONS AND VOICE COMMANDS

A smart home ensures safety, well-being and comfort as the devices allow a continuous exchange of information within the home system and also outwards. In recent years, home automation has been able to provide support to people in need of more attention, helping to remove architectural barriers, automating the opening of doors, curtains and shutters or allowing for response to the video intercom without getting out of bed or chair. But traditional control units are not always the most suitable solution: voice command is certainly a valid help for those with mobility problems as all the systems present in the house can be controlled without having to move.

A simple voice command and you can get real help. Home automation and voice control units can restore a little independence thanks to their interaction with the environment, making every gesture and every need natural.

Voice control simplifies life and allows you to create a customised home.
